Getting started

What signup, setup, and your first live call look like.

How fast can I get up and running?

Most businesses are live the same day they sign up. We pick a phone number with you, walk you through your services and hours, and run a test call together. If you want a full white-glove setup, we will do that in person if you are in Brevard County, or by video call anywhere else.

Does it work with my existing phone number?

Yes. Two options: keep your existing number and forward unanswered calls to a new local number we set up, or port your number to us for free. Most businesses keep their existing number on day one. Porting takes about a week and costs nothing.

What do I need to provide to get started?

Your business name, your service list with rough pricing, your hours, and how you want missed calls handled. We bring everything else. You do not need any new hardware, app, or carrier change.

How Mae works

What your customers hear when she picks up.

Will she sound like a robot?

No. Mae uses natural conversational speech, handles interruptions, and adapts her tone to the caller. Most people do not realize they are talking to an automated voice unless they are told. We send you a recording of every call so you can hear for yourself.

What happens if she cannot answer a question?

She transfers to your cell, takes a callback request, or does whatever you have told her to do for that scenario. You set the rules in the dashboard. She does not make things up.

What if my customer wants to talk to a human?

Mae listens for that. If a caller asks for a human, says they do not want to talk to a bot, or sounds frustrated, she transfers or takes a callback automatically. You can also customize the trigger phrases.

What happens when a caller asks for a callback?

Mae takes the message and logs it in your dashboard with the caller's name, phone, what they need, and how urgent it is — emergency, soon, or routine. You see it the moment the call ends in a Callbacks panel pinned to the top of your inbox. The caller gets a short SMS receipt so they know you're aware, and you dial back from your own cell when you can. Managed callback tracking is a Pro-plan feature; on Starter and Growth, Mae still takes a verbal message and you'll see it in the call summary.

Can I have it forward to my cell first?

Yes. Set a ring duration in the dashboard. If you do not pick up in time, or you decline the call, Mae takes over. You can also set after-hours-only, always-on, or simultaneous ring.

Does she speak Spanish?

Yes. Mae auto-detects English or Spanish on every call and answers in the language the caller used. No menu, no transfer, no missed customer.

Pricing and billing

Flat rate, no per-minute surprises.

How does pricing work?

Three plans: Starter at $49, Growth at $99, and Pro at $199 a month. Each plan includes a monthly minute allowance, unlimited SMS text-back, appointment booking, and a unified inbox. Pick the plan that matches the call volume you actually get.

What happens if I go over my minutes?

Overage is billed at a flat per-minute rate that varies by plan. You will get an email at 80 percent of your allowance so there are no surprises. Most businesses never hit overage.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. No annual contract, no cancellation fee. If you decide PorchBell is not for you, you keep your existing phone number and your recordings.

Privacy and compliance

Your recordings, your control. No model training on your data.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Recordings and transcripts are encrypted at rest, scoped per business with row-level security, and never used to train any model. You can export or delete everything from your dashboard.

How does call recording disclosure work?

Every call opens with a mandatory non-editable disclosure clause. This satisfies two-party consent law in Florida and every other US state. The exact wording is published on our Recording Disclosure page.

Are your SMS messages registered with the carriers?

Yes. PorchBell is registered as an A2P 10DLC brand with a campaign approved for transactional messages. That means no carrier filtering, no dropped messages, and you stay on the right side of TCPA.

How Mae fits a working day on the truck.

What about dispatch? Can I have her route to whoever is closest?

Today Mae transfers to a single cell or takes a callback. Routing rules for multi-tech crews are on the roadmap. If this is a deal-breaker, tell us on your demo so we can prioritize it.

Can she offer free estimates?

Yes. Configure an estimate slot type with the duration and pricing rules you use, and Mae will offer it to new callers asking about pricing. She will also gather job details so you can quote with context before showing up.
